AUZOXYMOX-CV-DDS is an oral suspension antibiotic primarily used to treat bacterial infections in children, including those of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, skin, urinary tract, and teeth. It contains two active ingredients: amoxicillin (a penicillin-type antibiotic) and clavulanic acid (a beta-lactamase inhibitor). This combination increases the spectrum of antibacterial action and overcomes resistance caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.
Key Features and Uses
-
Augmentin DDS Suspension treats bacterial infections such as middle ear infections, sinus infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, bone and joint infections, and dental infections.
-
It is particularly useful against bacteria that produce beta-lactamase, which makes them resistant to other antibiotics.
-
Sometimes prescribed for resistant forms of tuberculosis in children.
Dosage and Administration
-
The medication is usually given two to three times a day, as prescribed by a doctor, with the dose depending on the severity and type of infection as well as the patient’s age and weight.
-
It should be taken with food to help increase absorption and reduce stomach upset.
Side Effects
-
Common side effects can include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, and possible allergic reactions.
-
If side effects are severe or persistent, medical attention should be sought promptly.
Precautions
-
The child’s full medical history, including allergies, past reactions to antibiotics, and any liver or kidney dysfunction, should be communicated to the prescribing doctor.
Important Notes
-
AUZOXYMOX-CV-DDS is not effective against viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
-
The course of medication should be completed as prescribed, even if symptoms improve early, to prevent resistance and recurrence of infection.
This medicine is available in a dry suspension form, to be reconstituted and measured precisely using a dosing syringe or spoon as directed by a healthcare provider.
